Lorena Morton receives Young Investigator Award
The Faculty of Medicine at Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg has awarded the Young Researcher Prize in the Clinical Research category to Dr. med. Tobias Ronny Haage and in the Basic Biomedical Research category to Dr. rer. nat. Lorena Morton.
In the Biomedical Basic Research category, the Young Researcher Award of the Medical Faculty of Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg went to Dr. rer. nat. Lorena Morton from the Institute of Inflammation and Neurodegeneration.
Under the scientific supervision of Prof. Dr. rer. nat. habil. Ildiko R. Dunay, Director of the Institute of Inflammation and Neurodegeneration, the 36-year-old received the award for her research project: “Pericyte reprogramming and therapeutic potential of extracellular vesicles in hypertensive cerebral microangiopathy”.
In addition to a very good publication record (twelve publications, including three as first author), the committee particularly emphasized the high quality, structure and innovative strength of the submitted project. The prize money should make it easier for Dr. Morton to acquire further third-party funding and pave the way for an independent scientific profile.
The junior research prizes are endowed with 7,500 euros each and underline the Magdeburg Medical Faculty's commitment to promoting young scientists
